Conference of the Ministers of Culture of the Euro-Mediterranean region / EU-Southern Partnership
Naples, June 16-17 2022
The Conference of the Ministers of Culture of the Mediterranean, held in Naples on 16 and 17 June, focused on cultural diplomacy in a strategic region. 41 delegations participated, in hybrid format, representing the countries of the Euro-Mediterranean region, the competent European institutions, international organizations and major non-governmental organizations.
The Naples Conference provided an opportunity to develop new joint strategies and actions to protect and enhance culture as a common good of the Euro-Mediterranean region and launched the "Naples Process" for cultural collaboration in the Mediterranean.
Topics of discussion included the protection of cultural heritage from damage generated by international crises and illicit trafficking; the contribution of the cultural sectors to the fight against climate change; the role of culture in sustainable development and in achieving the goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda; international mobility and the training of artists and culture professionals.
Deliverables laid the foundations for the eventual establishment of new European Union programs dedicated to supporting culture in the Mediterranean in line with the strategic objectives of the New European Agenda for Culture and the New Agenda for the Mediterranean.
The conference was held in the prestigious locations of Palazzo Reale di Napoli and San Carlo’s theatre.
